Lacquer Painting ( THẦN KÊ )

In each rooster painting, people inscribe a poem with a charm-like quality. Ancient people believed that if two Kim Hoang rooster paintings were pasted on the door, evil spirits would not dare to enter and cause trouble. The poem on the Thần Kê (Godly Rooster) painting (on the right):

“Đông phương di hiệu thực tà thần Kim cự hoa khôi ngũ thái văn Hộ hộ khả linh quần quỷ tỵ Môn môn trùng khánh vạn niên thanh.”

“When the East shines, banishing evil spirits, Golden spurs, flowered comb, five-colored plumage so bright. Blessing each household, making demons flee in fright, May every door know repeated joy, and endless years of light.”

The pair of Thần kê (Godly Roosters) in Kim Hoang paintings were traditionally pasted on doors by people during Tết (Lunar New Year). The bright colors of the painting bring the luck of springtime into the home. However, their true significance lies in their power to guard the entrance, ward off evil spirits, attract vitality, and bring wealth to the homeowner, ensuring stability in both career and life. Thần Kê paintings are used in living rooms, offices, and businesses because of their ability to promote career advancement.
