Đoạn trường tân thanh , commonly known as Truyện Kiều , is an epic poem by the great poet Nguyễn Du. This is considered the most famous and a classic epic poem in Vietnamese literature, written in Nôm script using the lục bát meter (alternating lines of six and eight syllables), comprising 3,254 verses.
The artwork depicts a small segment from Truyện Kiều, during the Thanh Minh festival, featuring Thúy Kiều and her sister: the two sisters shyly nestled under a bush of flowers by the roadside. Kiều’s younger brother, Vương Quan, recognizes their friend and approaches to greet him. Kim Trọng is portrayed as very elegant and from a noble family, in the process of dismounting his horse to converse and exchange affections with them.
